Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty received a phone call today from his Syrian counterpart, Asaad al-Shaibani. During the call, they reviewed the course of bilateral relations between the two countries and the rapidly evolving regional situation. Abdel-Aty and al-Shaibani also discussed ways to advance and develop relations in various fields, particularly in the economic and trade sectors.
Minister Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt’s commitment to actively contributing to the Syrian government’s reconstruction efforts. He also stressed the importance of building upon the outcomes of the recent visit by the Egyptian economic delegation to Syria, in order to follow up on its implementation and achieve shared interests.
The call also addressed the grave dangers of military escalation in the region. Both sides reviewed Egyptian and regional efforts to contain tensions and de-escalate the situation, particularly concerning recent developments related to Iran. Regarding the latest developments in the Palestinian issue and the situation in Lebanon, Minister Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt’s unequivocal condemnation of the ongoing Israeli violations and the ground incursion into southern Lebanon. He emphasized Egypt’s complete rejection of these blatant violations, which constitute a clear attack on the security and sovereignty of both Lebanon and Syria. He warned of the dire consequences of this continued escalation for regional peace and security. Furthermore, he stressed the necessity of concerted efforts to prevent the region from sliding into a wider conflict.
