Dubai, UAE – US President Donald Trump said the United States and Iran held “fruitful talks” over the weekend.
He added that he would postpone military strikes against Iranian energy sites for five days.
Postponing attacks
Trump wrote in capital letters on Truth Social that he made the decision to postpone the threatening attacks based on the “tone and content” of the discussions.
The US President wrote: “I am pleased to inform you that, over the past two days, the United States of America and the State of Iran have held very good and fruitful talks on reaching a complete and comprehensive solution to our hostilities in the Middle East”.
Trump continued: “Based on the content and tone of these in-depth, detailed and constructive talks, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the War Department to postpone all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions”.
Opening of the Strait of Hormuz
Trump had threatened to strike Iranian power plants by Monday evening if the country did not allow the Strait of Hormuz to reopen.
Until last week, Trump said he was not interested in seeking a ceasefire with Iran.
“We can have a dialogue, but I don’t want a ceasefire,” he said Friday afternoon.
