Tehran, Iran – Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has threatened to completely close the Strait of Hormuz if the United States targets Iranian energy facilities. This latest escalation signals a potential deepening of the crisis.
Mutual threats and rapid escalation
These threats came after a warning issued by US President Donald Trump.
Trump threatened to “obliterate” Iranian power plants if Iran did not reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours.
This exchange of statements represents a significant escalation, following earlier indications of a possible de-escalation.
Potential targeting of US interests
The Revolutionary Guard statement clarified that companies with American investments would be subject
to complete destruction in the event of any attack on Iranian energy facilities.
It also indicated that energy facilities in countries hosting American bases could become “legitimate” targets.
This broadens the scope of the threat to include other regional actors.
Concerns about global energy supplies
The threat of closing the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil shipping lanes,
is raising growing international concern about the security of energy supplies and market stability.
This comes at a time of escalating military tensions. All of this increases the likelihood of widespread disruptions to global trade and oil prices.
