Tehran, Iran – The early hours of this morning witnessed a military escalation, the most intense of its kind. The strategic port of Lengeh in Hormozgan province, southern Iran, was subjected to a series of concentrated airstrikes, resulting in the destruction of large sections of the port’s pier. Iranian Revolutionary Guard naval vessels also caught fire.
Targeting the Revolutionary Guard’s naval fleet
Multiple field reports, corroborated by videos shared by activists on social media platforms like X and Instagram, indicated massive fires and thick plumes of smoke rising from the heart of the port and customs area.
Initial information suggests that the bombing directly targeted several warships. The targets included frigates and supply vessels belonging to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy that were docked in the port. As a result, powerful secondary explosions rocked the coastal city.
A wave of widespread attacks
The strikes were not limited to the south. Reliable sources, including Iran International, reported hearing simultaneous explosions in several major Iranian cities, including Isfahan, Yazd, Kerman, Arak, and the capital, Tehran.
This wide geographical scope of the operations suggests a large-scale, coordinated air attack targeting the Iranian regime’s military infrastructure and sensitive facilities simultaneously. As a result, the attack overwhelmed air defenses across various regions.
Joint Strike Coalition
While Iranian officials remained silent regarding the precise details and extent of casualties, military assessments indicate that these attacks were part of a joint US-Israeli operation. They were described as a “preemptive strike” aimed at crippling Iranian logistical and naval capabilities. Analysts also believe that targeting Bandar Lengeh specifically was intended to sever a vital artery for the transfer of weapons and equipment across the Persian Gulf.
