Cairo, Egypt – Egypt strongly condemned the ballistic missile attacks targeting Riyadh. It affirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its leadership, government, and people. Egypt also emphasized that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of the security of Egypt and the Arab world.
Solidarity with the Gulf states and rejection of escalation
Cairo also condemned the repeated attacks targeting the United Arab Emirates, affirming its solidarity with the UAE in the face of any threats. It reiterated its full support for Qatar, particularly in light of the risks threatening its energy facilities, including the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Ras Laffan. Cairo emphasized its rejection of any attacks that undermine the security and stability of the Gulf states.
Refusal to target vital facilities
Egypt reiterated its firm rejection of any attempts to target oil and gas facilities or civilian infrastructure. It considered these attacks a blatant violation of international law and the UN Charter. Egypt also noted that targeting sites like the South Pars gas field in Iran exacerbates the risk of escalation and threatens regional stability.
Warnings of economic and environmental repercussions
Cairo expressed its deep concern about the repercussions of targeting energy facilities on global energy security and the international economy. It warned of the serious environmental consequences that could result from these attacks, as well as the risks to civilians and vital infrastructure. Egypt reiterated its call for prioritizing dialogue and restraint, and working to contain the current military escalation. This would contribute to restoring stability at both the regional and international levels, and spare the region further tensions and negative repercussions.
