Tehran, Iran – In an unprecedented and dramatic escalation that takes the direct confrontation between Tel Aviv and Tehran to levels that threaten a full-scale regional war, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz announced today the killing of Ali Larijani.
He was advisor to the Iranian Supreme Leader and former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. The killing took place in a military operation targeting the heads of the Iranian regime.
“Settling the Account” Statement
In a brief press statement tinged with gloating and threats, Katz confirmed the success of the operation,
the geographical details of which he has not yet disclosed, saying:
“Larijani and Basij commander Gholam Reza Soleimani were eliminated and have joined the leader of Israel’s destruction plan, Khamenei,
and all the members of the axis of evil who have been neutralized in the depths of hell.”
This announcement constitutes an official Israeli acknowledgment of targeting the top leadership of the Islamic Republic,
with Katz describing these figures as the primary drivers of what Israel calls the “axis of evil.”
“Decapitate the octopus” strategy
The defense minister’s statement didn’t stop at announcing the death. It also revealed a new strategic direction adopted by the current Israeli government to undermine Iranian influence from within.
Katz explained that, in coordination with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, explicit orders were issued to the Israeli army and intelligence services “to continue pursuing the leaders of the regime of terror and repression in Iran,
and to repeatedly cut off the head of the octopus and prevent it from growing.”
This statement indicates a shift in Israeli security doctrine from striking the “arms” (pro-Iranian factions in the region) to directly targeting the “head” in Tehran. The aim is to destabilize the regime and prevent it from regrouping.
Expected regional repercussions
The killing of Larijani, a prominent Iranian diplomatic and security figure, and Soleimani, the powerful commander of the Basij militia, represents a devastating blow to the Iranian security establishment.
Observers believe this development could push the region to the brink. Indeed, world capitals await the Iranian response, which may extend beyond proxies to direct confrontation.
As of now, there has been no official comment from Tehran to confirm or deny the reports, amid heightened security alerts on both sides.
