Tel Aviv, Israel – The Israeli military announced it had carried out a series of airstrikes targeting Basij militia sites inside the Iranian capital, Tehran, coinciding with intensive raids on Hezbollah-linked locations in several areas. This escalation is significant and reflects the widening scope of the confrontation in the region.
According to military statements, the strikes inside Tehran focused on facilities believed to be used for logistical support and mobilization. The Basij militia is a key arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and is responsible for popular mobilization and internal support.
At the same time, Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on sites suspected of being used by Hezbollah. These strikes targeted weapons depots and assembly points, amid reports of loud explosions in various areas.
This simultaneous escalation on two fronts reflects – according to observers – a shift in the nature of military operations. Initially, the strikes were limited, but the operations have expanded to target the infrastructure supporting Iran’s allies in the region. These operations also include targeting sites inside and outside Iranian territory.
This comes amid escalating tensions, with various parties hinting at potential retaliation. It also opens the door to more complex scenarios that could push the region into a new phase of unprecedented escalation.
