Ankara, Turkey – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said that Ankara is in talks with Tehran regarding the discrepancy between Iranian statements and the technical data available to Turkish authorities concerning the missile launches toward Turkish territory. He also noted that Iran has denied responsibility for these attacks.
Technical data about missiles
Fidan explained during a press conference in Ankara that Turkish authorities possess technical information and data regarding the missiles launched toward Turkish airspace. He confirmed that this data is being discussed with Iranian officials to clarify discrepancies between the technical facts and the official statements issued by Tehran.
He added that Ankara is closely monitoring developments in light of escalating regional tensions. Diplomatic contacts with the Iranian side regarding the incident are also ongoing.
Intercepting a ballistic missile
Turkey announced earlier last week that it had intercepted a ballistic missile launched from Iran within Turkish airspace. This was the second such incident in recent days, raising security concerns and prompting Ankara to take additional defensive measures.
These developments come at a time of escalating military tensions in the region, fueled by the ongoing conflict with Iran.
Strengthening air defenses and coordination with NATO
In the same context, Ankara began deploying the Patriot air defense system in the country’s central region as part of bolstering its defense capabilities following the interception of the second missile.
The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that necessary measures are being taken to protect the borders and airspace. Consultations with NATO and its allies are ongoing. The ministry also noted that NATO has, in turn, strengthened its air and missile defense measures to support Türkiye’s security.
