Washington, DC – US President Donald Trump affirmed that his country will work to reopen the Strait of Hormuz soon, “one way or another.” He also emphasized that the United States had succeeded in completely destroying Iran’s military capabilities during the recent confrontations, as he put it.
In statements carried by US media outlets, Trump explained that the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz is a strategic priority for Washington and the global economy. This comes in light of the strait’s importance, through which a large portion of the world’s oil supply passes.
He added that the United States will not allow any party to threaten international trade or disrupt shipping in the region. He also affirmed that the US military possesses the full capability to secure vital maritime routes, thereby ensuring the continued flow of energy to global markets.
Trump indicated that the recent military operations dealt severe blows to Iran’s military infrastructure. He also asserted that these strikes “eliminated 100% of Iran’s capabilities that threatened regional stability,” as he put it.
These statements come amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region and the Middle East, fueled by international concerns about the impact of any military escalation on maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. The strait is one of the world’s most vital oil and gas shipping lanes.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically crucial point in global trade, with massive quantities of oil and gas passing through it daily en route to Asian and European markets. Therefore, any threat to it is a major concern for the global economy.
