Erbil, Iraq – The Alliance of Iranian Kurdish Political Parties issued an urgent appeal to the international community and humanitarian organizations, demanding immediate and practical measures to end the missile and drone attacks launched by Iran against the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
They also warned against turning the region into an arena for settling regional scores at the expense of civilian lives and refugees.
Systematic targeting and casualties
In an official statement addressed to international institutions and forums, the alliance revealed that the Kurdistan Region has been subjected to hundreds of attacks since the outbreak of the recent conflict between Iran on one side, and the United States and Israel on the other.
The statement emphasized that these attacks were not limited to military targets,
but also directly targeted the bases of Iranian Kurdish parties and their affiliated civilian refugee camps.
The alliance disclosed that there were casualties in the recent attacks, including the death of Omid Feysi,
a member of the Peshmerga forces of the Iranian Kurdish Komala Party.
Fakhruddin Moradi and Iqbal Salehi, members of the Peshmerga forces of the Iranian Kurdish Khabat Organization,
were also killed in the heavy bombardment that targeted their positions.
Condemnation of the attacks
The coalition strongly condemned what it described as the “terrorist acts” perpetrated by the Iranian regime and its affiliated militias,
emphasizing that the bombing targeted civilian residences of Iranian Kurdish refugees who had fled oppression within their country.
The statement also strongly condemned the targeting of consulates and political offices of foreign countries in Iraqi Kurdistan,
considering it a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty and international conventions protecting diplomatic missions.
Exporting crises abroad
The Kurdish parties alliance believes that the regime in Tehran is pursuing a strategy of “exporting the crisis.”
Domestically, it is carrying out mass killings to suppress protests and arresting large numbers of Kurdish citizens.
Externally, it is attempting to prolong its rule by creating hotspots of tension, fueling wars, and spreading instability in neighboring countries.
The alliance concluded its statement by calling on the international community
and major powers to move beyond mere verbal condemnation to concrete action
by supporting the rights of the Iranian people and their legitimate demands, and by firmly confronting the attacks targeting civilians in Iraqi Kurdistan.
It emphasized that international silence regarding these violations emboldens the regime
and its militias to continue their “scorched earth” policy and to threaten regional peace and security in an unprecedented manner.
