Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Saudi Ministry of Defense announced that its forces successfully destroyed two drones that were heading towards the Shaybah oil field in the Empty Quarter. The Ministry confirmed that the operation was part of the Kingdom’s efforts to protect vital installations and secure national energy supplies.
The Saudi Ministry of Defense explained that the two drones were detected and intercepted in a timely manner before reaching their targets. It also emphasized the Kingdom’s continued commitment to taking all necessary defensive measures to maintain the security of oil facilities and the stability of energy supplies. This comes amidst escalating Houthi attacks on areas in the south and east of the Kingdom.
The Ministry of Defense affirmed that such attacks pose a threat to regional and international security. It called on the international community to pressure armed groups to ensure that civilian and oil facilities, which are vital to the global economy, are not targeted.
This operation is part of a series of Saudi measures aimed at strengthening its defense capabilities and ensuring the protection of vital oil installations in various regions of the Kingdom, particularly in the Empty Quarter, which contains some of the most important oil fields. This comes amidst ongoing regional threats in the area.
