Tehran, Iran – A US airstrike targeting a site inside Iran ended up bombing a girls’ school, Reuters reported. The strike relied on outdated intelligence that identified the building as a military facility.
According to the report, the data used to justify the military operation dated back to a time when the building was used for military or logistical activities. It was later converted into a girls’ school. This information was not updated in the intelligence databases before the strike was carried out.
Sources indicated that the strike was part of a series of military operations carried out by US forces in the region in recent days. This came amid escalating military tensions between Washington and Tehran. However, the incident sparked widespread debate about the accuracy of the intelligence used to identify the targets.
The US Department of Defense has not yet issued a detailed statement regarding the incident. Military sources merely indicated that investigations are underway to assess the circumstances of the operation and confirm the nature of the target.
For its part, Tehran considered the incident “further proof of the dangers of inaccurate strikes.” It emphasized that targeting an educational facility constitutes a violation of international laws that prohibit targeting civilian infrastructure.
The revelation of this incident comes at a time of rapidly escalating military tensions in the region. The increasing number of exchanges of strikes and military operations has heightened tensions between regional and international powers, raising growing concerns about a wider conflict in the Middle East.
