Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, strongly condemned on Tuesday the attack targeting the Consulate General of the United Arab Emirates in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. He affirmed the GCC states’ full solidarity with Abu Dhabi in the face of this aggression.
Violation of the Vienna Convention
Al-Badawi stressed in a statement that targeting diplomatic missions constitutes a grave violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. He noted that such attacks represent a dangerous escalation that threatens the safety and security of diplomats and staff at diplomatic premises.
Gulf solidarity with the UAE
The Secretary-General stressed the GCC’s solidarity with the United Arab Emirates in the face of this attack. He affirmed the GCC states’ rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism that threaten security and stability in the region.
Continued Arab condemnations
The GCC’s stance comes amid a series of Arab condemnations of the attack targeting the UAE consulate in Iraqi Kurdistan. Several Gulf states have expressed their solidarity with the UAE and their rejection of attacks on diplomatic missions, deeming them a clear violation of international norms and laws.
