Kuwait – The Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said on Monday that his country is under attack from a neighboring Muslim country, which he described as friendly. He also affirmed that Kuwait has not permitted the use of its land, airspace, or coastline for any military action against it.
Affirming respect for sovereignty
In a televised address, the Emir of Kuwait clarified that his country has been careful not to allow its land, airspace, or territorial waters to be used in any military operations against that state.
He added that Kuwait affirms its commitment to the principles of respecting the sovereignty of nations and non-interference in their internal affairs. He also stated that Kuwait continues to pursue a balanced policy aimed at maintaining stability in the region.
Gulf security is a single unit.
Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah emphasized that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is indivisible. He affirmed that any infringement upon the sovereignty of any member state is considered an infringement upon the collective security of the Gulf region.
He also highlighted the importance of solidarity and cooperation among the GCC states in confronting security challenges that could threaten the stability of the region.
Kuwait’s right to defend itself
The Emir of Kuwait affirmed that his country reserves its inherent right to defend itself against what he described as aggression, in a manner commensurate with the scale of the attack and in accordance with the rules of international law.
He added that Kuwait will continue to take measures to ensure the protection of its sovereignty, security, and stability. This comes within the framework of its commitment to international law and the preservation of regional security.
