Tehran, Iran – Iran announced on Tuesday that four of its diplomats were killed in Lebanon in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a hotel in Beirut. This was stated in an official letter from its permanent representative to the United Nations to the UN Secretary-General. The letter was also addressed to the President of the Security Council and the President of the General Assembly.
Details of the raid in Beirut
In his letter, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Irvani, explained that the attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, March 8, 2026. An Israeli airstrike also targeted the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, killing four Iranian diplomats. These diplomats were present at the hotel at the time of the attack.
Direct accusation against Israel
The Iranian ambassador described the attack as a “deliberate act of terrorism,” asserting that Israel bears full responsibility for targeting Iranian diplomats in Lebanon. He also called on the international community to take a clear stance regarding what he termed an attack on a diplomatic mission.
Escalating confrontation in the region
This development comes amid escalating military tensions in the region. Simultaneously, Israeli strikes targeting sites linked to Iran and its allies in Lebanon are expanding, raising concerns about a wider regional conflict.
