Geneva, Switzerland – The UAE’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Jamal Juma Al Musharrakh, called on Monday for de-escalation in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and a return to the negotiating table. This comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Israel on one side, and Iran on the other.
Repeated call for de-escalation
Speaking to reporters in Geneva, Al-Mashrakh said the UAE’s position remains firm: de-escalation is essential. He stressed that diplomatic solutions and dialogue remain the best way to prevent the conflict in the region from spreading.
He added that his country will continue to call for calm and will work with the international community to support efforts to restore regional stability.
Attacks on Gulf states
The UAE ambassador explained that several Gulf states have been targeted by drone and missile attacks since the war began on February 28. He noted that the UAE was among the countries affected.
He added that the UAE has been subjected to more than 1,400 attacks in recent days, resulting in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to 114 others. Furthermore, travel and business have been disrupted.
Targeting civilian infrastructure
Al-Mashrakh noted that the attacks targeted civilian infrastructure in the country, including desalination plants and energy facilities. He described this as alarming and unacceptable.
He affirmed that the UAE is prepared to protect these vital sites, while emphasizing that the country’s bases will not be used to launch attacks against Iran. This comes despite the UAE being subjected to unjustified attacks.
These statements come at a time of escalating tensions in the region, with ongoing military operations. There are also growing concerns about the conflict widening and its impact on regional stability and global energy markets.
