Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso – At least 30 police officers were killed in an armed attack on a security post in eastern Burkina Faso. This attack is one of the deadliest the country has seen in recent times, according to security and local sources.
The sources reported that unidentified gunmen launched a surprise attack on a police unit in the eastern region of the country. The attackers used heavy and medium weapons, leading to fierce clashes that lasted for some time before the attackers withdrew from the site.
Reports indicate that the attack resulted in dozens of police officers being killed and several others wounded. Security facilities and vehicles also sustained significant damage as a result of the fighting.
Authorities in Burkina Faso have launched a large-scale search operation in the area to track down the perpetrators of the attack. At the same time, military reinforcements have been deployed to the site in an effort to restore order and prevent a recurrence of such attacks.
Burkina Faso has witnessed a surge in armed attacks targeting security forces and civilians for several years. This escalation is particularly concentrated in the eastern and northern regions, where armed groups linked to extremist organizations are active. This further complicates the security situation in the country and raises concerns about a continued deterioration of security conditions.
