Beirut, Lebanon – The Lebanese president stressed that disarming Hezbollah is a crucial step to strengthening state sovereignty and the security of its citizens. He also called for an end to the ongoing Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, which threaten the country’s internal and external stability.
The president explained that the continued illegal arming of certain armed groups poses a direct threat to Lebanon’s security. He affirmed that the state is the sole entity authorized to protect its borders and maintain security. He warned that any transgression of this framework further complicates the crisis and weakens state institutions.
He noted that the recent Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon and its eastern territories targeted civilians and infrastructure. He warned that any further escalation could have serious repercussions for regional security and exacerbate the suffering of the Lebanese people.
The president called on the international community to pressure all parties involved to ensure respect for Lebanese sovereignty and an end to the violations. He affirmed that Lebanon seeks political and peaceful solutions to the crises and is committed to maintaining its ability to protect its borders and citizens.
These statements come at a time of escalating tensions in the region, amid international concerns that the conflict could spiral into a wider confrontation. Such a confrontation could destabilize the Middle East.
