Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese official sources reported today that 20 people have been killed as a result of the violent escalation in several areas. This comes as a massive wave of displacement has affected more than 18,000 families in the past few hours. This is one of the largest waves of displacement since the recent clashes began.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health confirmed the rising death toll due to the ongoing airstrikes and clashes. It indicated that hospitals in the affected areas are operating at maximum capacity to accommodate the wounded, amid shortages of some medical supplies.
In the same context, the Higher Relief Commission announced that its teams are monitoring the sheltering of displaced families in designated schools and centers. They are also providing urgent aid, including food, blankets, and medicine, as the number of people fleeing the conflict zones continues to rise.
The escalation of violence has caused widespread damage to infrastructure and power and communication outages in some areas. Major roads are experiencing severe traffic congestion due to the massive influx of people fleeing towards safer areas.
There are growing fears that the clashes will spread further in the coming hours. Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts are ongoing to contain the situation and prevent it from deteriorating further. Warnings are also being issued of a humanitarian catastrophe if the escalation continues in this manner.
