Baghdad, Iraq – The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Wednesday a complete power outage across all provinces of the country, confirming that the cause is still under investigation.
The ministry explained in an official statement that the outage affected the entire national grid. However, it did not provide immediate details regarding the nature or timing of the malfunction. It indicated that technical teams have begun inspection and follow-up work to determine the source of the problem.
An urgent technical investigation has been launched.
The ministry confirmed that specialized committees are investigating the causes of the sudden power outage, whether it stemmed from a technical malfunction in the network, a failure at power generation plants, or a problem with transmission systems.
It added that the investigations are ongoing and that the results will be announced as soon as the technical assessment is complete and the full circumstances of the incident are known.
Efforts to gradually restore power
The ministry indicated that its engineering and technical teams are on high alert and working to restart power generation units and restore stability to the national grid as quickly as possible.
It also urged citizens to conserve energy immediately after power is restored, emphasizing that this will help stabilize loads and prevent future outages.
Potential repercussions on services
The widespread blackout comes at a time when vital facilities, including hospitals, water treatment plants, and oil installations, rely on a stable electricity supply. This could place additional strain on these facilities if the outage continues for an extended period.
No official estimates have yet been released regarding when full service will be restored, and the government is closely monitoring the situation.
