Cairo, Egypt – Ambassador Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, affirmed the existence of an Arab consensus on supporting Lebanese state institutions, foremost among them the army and the Internal Security Forces.
This comes amidst the delicate circumstances the country is currently facing.
Zaki explained that Arab states consider supporting the Lebanese army
and the Internal Security Forces a “fundamental pillar of Lebanon’s stability.”
He also emphasized that preserving state institutions is a top priority at this stage.
A unified Arab position
He noted that there is a clear consensus within the Arab League on the
need to strengthen the capabilities of Lebanese security institutions.
This would enable them to fulfill their duties in maintaining security, combating terrorism, and controlling the borders.
The statement comes at a sensitive time, as Lebanon faces escalating economic and security pressures. It also comes amid warnings of the repercussions of any instability within the country.
A message of political and security support
Observers believe the Arab consensus carries a clear political message: Lebanon’s stability is a red line. They also emphasize that supporting its legitimate institutions is the only way to protect the state.
Zaki stressed that the next phase requires continuous Arab coordination, not only at the political level,
but also practical support programs that enhance the readiness of security forces and restore confidence in Lebanese state institutions.
The question remains: Will this Arab consensus translate into swift, concrete steps to bolster Lebanon’s stability?
