Tehran, Iran – Iran’s deputy foreign minister warned that any US military strike targeting the Iranian capital would be a “dangerous gamble.” He emphasized that Iran’s response would not be limited or symbolic, but would exceed all expectations if red lines were crossed.
The official, in remarks carried by Iranian state media, said that his country “is not seeking escalation, but will not compromise in defending its sovereignty.” He added that Tehran is closely monitoring US movements in the region.
These statements come amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, marked by an exchange of indirect political and military messages. There are also naval and aerial movements reflecting a state of regional and international anticipation.
Observers believe that using the term “gamble” carries a dual message: it is a warning against unforeseen consequences, while simultaneously attempting to deter any potential military action by raising the political and military cost of such a decision.
The international community fears that any direct confrontation could ignite a wider conflict in a region already suffering from intertwined crises. This could drive energy prices to record highs and reshuffle alliances in the Middle East.
All eyes remain on Washington and Tehran, awaiting whether the warnings will translate into concrete actions, or whether channels of de-escalation will succeed in containing the situation before it spirals into open conflict.
