Washington, DC – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis launched a scathing attack on the policy of negotiating with the Islamic Republic of Iran. He asserted that any diplomatic approach with Tehran is a “dead end.” At the same time, he affirmed that the incoming US administration under Donald Trump would take a firm stance in support of the popular movement within Iran.
Florida Governor’s remarks
DeSantis expressed confidence that Donald Trump would fulfill his campaign promises to fully support Iranian protesters.
He clarified that he would not back down from confronting the regime.
The failure of diplomacy: The governor described negotiations with Tehran as “doomed to failure.”
He also emphasized that the Iranian regime is not a partner with whom
a “correct” or sustainable agreement can be reached.
He described the Iranian government as the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism,
holding it directly responsible for the deaths of thousands of American soldiers.
DeSantis recalled his military experience in Iraq. He noted that the majority of American casualties were a result of the activities of militias supported by Tehran.
Jihad versus world peace
In a scathing ideological critique, the Florida governor explained that Iran’s goals are fundamentally at odds with the international community.
He stated, “The Iranian regime pursues a jihadist agenda, and unlike the United States, it does not prioritize achieving peace or global stability.”
DeSantis’s remarks come at a time when the American political scene is anticipating Trump’s return to the White House.
This could be followed by a return to the “maximum pressure” policy on Tehran,
amidst sharp divisions over the merits of returning to the nuclear agreement or opening new channels of dialogue.
