Florida, USA – The US Secret Service announced Sunday that an armed man was killed after being shot while attempting to enter the security perimeter surrounding US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
The agency stated that the man was seen at the north gate of the Mar-a-Lago complex carrying what appeared to be a shotgun and a fuel container. Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Deputy then intervened and shot him, killing him at the scene.
Trump was not at the resort
Although Trump often spends weekends at his Mar-a-Lago resort, he was at the White House at the time of the incident. First Lady Melania Trump was also with him Saturday evening.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity or motives, and the White House has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
Previous security threats
The incident comes amid a series of threats Trump has faced over the past two years. On July 13, 2024, he was wounded in an assassination attempt during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
On September 15, 2024, an armed man was arrested near Trump’s golf course in West Palm Beach while the president was playing. He was sentenced to life in prison earlier this month.
Facilities associated with the US president are subject to heightened security measures overseen by the Secret Service. This is especially true given the frequent threats targeting high-ranking political figures in the United States.
