Tehran, Iran – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that his country will not “bow its head” to pressure from world powers, amid ongoing nuclear talks with the United States and escalating military tensions in the region, according to Reuters.
In a televised address, Pezeshkian stated, “World powers are lining up to force us to bow our heads, but we will not bow our heads despite all the problems they are creating for us.” This was a reference to the political and military pressures related to the nuclear issue.
American threats and military movements
The Iranian president’s remarks came after repeated US threats to strike Tehran if nuclear negotiations between the two countries falter. Washington announced the deployment of two aircraft carriers, hundreds of fighter jets, and dozens of warships to the region. This move is seen as an attempt to pressure Iran into making concessions regarding its nuclear and missile programs and its support for its allies in the region.
The aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford also entered the Mediterranean Sea. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump announced that he is considering a “limited strike” against Iran if the talks do not lead to an agreement.
Signs of mutual escalation
In response, Iran has taken steps indicating its readiness for any potential confrontation, including fortifying its nuclear sites and rebuilding its missile production facilities. Satellite imagery analysis has also revealed that Tehran has repaired missile installations damaged in a previous conflict.
Despite ongoing negotiations between the two sides, reports indicate that disagreements persist on a number of fundamental issues. Meanwhile, concerns are growing that the situation could escalate into open military conflict should the diplomatic track fail.
