Washington, DC – CBS News, citing informed sources, reported that senior US national security officials have briefed President Donald Trump on the readiness of the US military. They discussed the potential to conduct strikes against Iranian targets.
According to the sources, the timeline for these operations could begin as early as next Saturday. The timeline could also extend beyond the weekend.
Assessing the situation at the White House
Despite the military’s readiness, officials confirmed that President Trump has not yet made a final decision. Deliberations within the White House are described as dynamic and ongoing, subject to real-time updates.
They also focus on weighing the risks of regional escalation against the political and military repercussions of either taking action. Alternatively, they consider the consequences of refraining from it.
US military move and precaution
In anticipation of any retaliatory actions or counterattacks, the Pentagon has begun a temporary redeployment of some of its military personnel. These forces are moving from the Middle East toward Europe and the United States.
An informed source explained that these movements fall within “standard precautionary protocols” and do not indicate an imminent attack.
On the ground, Washington has reinforced its naval presence with the deployment of the USS Abraham Lincoln carrier strike group to the region. The USS Gerald R. Ford is also nearing its arrival. This ship was last spotted off the coast of West Africa.
