Munich, Germany – In his most strongly worded remarks since the start of the recent unrest, Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s late Shah and one of the most prominent figures in the exiled opposition, called on the administration of US President Donald Trump to launch a military strike against the Iranian regime, asserting that the government in Tehran is “on the verge of collapse.”
“Military intervention saves lives.”
In an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference, Pahlavi urged Washington not to waste time on nuclear talks with what he called “religious rulers.” He said, “It’s a matter of time, and an attack could hasten the regime’s downfall and allow people to return to the streets to end this era.” Pahlavi argued that US military action was not merely a means of war, but a “life-saving measure” by shortening the regime’s lifespan.
Trump’s pressure and the “option of force”
Pahlavi’s remarks come amid intensified US military and diplomatic activity, with President Trump recently suggesting that “instilling fear in Tehran” might be necessary to resolve the crisis. US officials have revealed that the military is prepared for an operation that could last for weeks if ordered. These threats coincided with diplomatic talks held in Oman last week between US and Iranian officials.
Call for a “World Day of Action”
Aside from relying on foreign powers, Pahlavi called on protesters inside Iran to participate in a “global day of action” starting at 8:00 PM Tehran time. This movement aims to “make the voice of a united nation heard” and secure broader international support for the downfall of the regime, which is facing a wave of bloody protests that began in the Grand Bazaar and have spread throughout the country.
