Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) announced today that Syrian authorities thwarted an attempt to smuggle a quantity of narcotics in the Yabroud area, located on the border with Lebanon.
The agency stated that the operation was part of the Syrian authorities’ ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and pursue smuggling networks operating in border regions.
It added that security forces seized quantities of narcotics during an attempt to smuggle them through the area, noting that the operation resulted in the arrest of several suspects.
Future smuggling attempts
SANA confirmed that investigations are underway to identify all parties involved in the smuggling attempt,
with a focus on uncovering the networks and connections they use to smuggle drugs into and out of Syria.
The agency pointed out that security agencies are working in coordination with local
and military authorities to ensure tight control over border areas and prevent any future smuggling attempts.
This operation is part of a series of measures implemented by the Syrian authorities to combat drugs. In recent months,
these measures have included the seizure of large quantities of narcotics
and the arrest of a number of individuals involved in smuggling networks, both along the borders and within Syrian cities.
The Syrian state and the fight against drugs
SANA also confirmed that the Syrian state gives the fight against drugs the highest priority due to their negative impact on society,
including increased crime, their effect on youth and families, and their sometimes connection to financing illicit activities or terrorist groups.
These ongoing measures underscore the Syrian authorities’ commitment to protecting society and preventing any drug-related threats.
They also reflect the continuous security coordination to confront organized crime along Syria’s borders with neighboring countries,
particularly with Lebanon, whose border is one of the most active areas for smuggling networks.
These ongoing security efforts aim to enhance stability in border areas and protect society
from the dangers associated with drug smuggling and its spread.
