Cairo, Egypt – The 104th session of the Arab Media Permanent Committee, chaired by the State of Kuwait, commenced with the participation of representatives from media ministries and authorities across the Arab world. The committee is convening to discuss key issues related to developing joint Arab media efforts. It also aims to enhance coordination among media institutions, particularly in light of the rapid digital transformations occurring globally within the media industry.
During its meetings, the committee will address several strategic issues, most notably strengthening Arab media identity and combating misinformation and hate speech. Furthermore, it will support the development of competitive Arab content regionally and internationally. The committee will also explore mechanisms for leveraging artificial intelligence and modern technologies to improve media performance.
Kuwait, as the current chair, emphasized the importance of unifying Arab efforts to confront shared media challenges. It also called for the development of a professional media discourse that reflects regional issues and promotes public awareness. Kuwait stressed the importance of supporting responsible media based on credibility and adherence to professional standards.
Participants are also discussing ways to enhance cooperation between public and private media institutions and to develop training and capacity-building programs for media professionals. In this context, coordination is underway regarding Arab media positions in international forums, aiming to achieve a more influential and effective Arab presence.
The committee is expected to issue a set of recommendations at the conclusion of its work, aimed at modernizing the Arab media system. These recommendations also aim to enhance its ability to keep pace with the rapid changes in the global media landscape.
