Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Ministry of Interior announced on Tuesday the thwarting of a terrorist plot in the Mezzeh district of Damascus and the arrest of the remaining members of a terrorist cell that was preparing to carry out attacks aimed at destabilizing populated areas. The ministry stated in an official statement that the security operation is a continuation of the targeted operations carried out by the Ministry of Interior units in the Damascus countryside. This was done in cooperation with the General Intelligence Directorate. The operation resulted in the dismantling of a cell involved in attacks that targeted the Mezzeh area and its military airport.
The statement added that security units apprehended the remaining members of the cell as they attempted to set up Grad rocket launchers, preparing to target populated areas before carrying out their terrorist plots. The ministry affirmed that the operation was conducted according to a well-devised security plan and a precise strategy. It also resulted in the arrest of all those involved and the seizure of the launchers before they could be used, reflecting the high level of preparedness and proactive capabilities of the security services.
The statement indicated that initial investigations revealed confessions from those involved, admitting their direct participation in planning additional terrorist attacks and their connection to external coordination with terrorist entities. The statement confirmed that all seized materials were confiscated and that the detainees were referred to the relevant authorities to complete the investigations and take the necessary legal measures. It is worth noting that security forces announced on February 1st a series of precise operations targeting a terrorist cell in Mezzeh and its military airport. Missile launchers and drones belonging to Hezbollah were seized. Security forces also thwarted a new attack plot before it could be carried out.
