Moscow, Russia – The head of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant warned of escalating security tensions around the facility. She indicated that recent Ukrainian attacks have increased the risks to the safety of the plant and its associated infrastructure.
She confirmed that the situation remains under control for now. However, the ongoing military operations in the area are raising serious concerns about the stability of Europe’s largest nuclear facility. This comes amid repeated international calls for de-escalation and the avoidance of any actions that could threaten nuclear security.
The area surrounding the Zaporizhzhia plant has witnessed intermittent clashes for months. In this context, both sides accuse each other of targeting the site. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also consistently warned of the risk of a nuclear accident should military operations escalate near the facility.
