Moscow, Russia – The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense forces destroyed 22 Ukrainian drones during an aerial attack targeting several Russian regions. This comes amid an ongoing escalation of drone attacks between the two sides.
In an official statement, the ministry explained that air defense systems intercepted the drones during the night. It also confirmed that the forces successfully thwarted the attack without significant losses. Meanwhile, potential damage to some of the targeted sites was being assessed.
This development comes amid a marked increase in the use of drones in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. Low-cost drone strikes have become a primary tool for both sides to target infrastructure and military sites, further complicating the security landscape.
Military assessments indicate that Kyiv has intensified its drone attacks recently, aiming to exert pressure deep into Russia. In response, Moscow is attempting to bolster its air defense systems around cities and vital installations to contain these growing threats.
Observers assert that the continued exchange of airstrikes could push the conflict into a more critical phase, particularly with the introduction of new technologies to the battlefield. Furthermore, the scope of operations is expanding beyond traditional front lines.
