Tehran, Iran – Official and religious rhetoric in Iran has intensified regarding US military movements in the region. Prominent figures and media outlets close to the decision-making process have asserted that the policy of “showing force” will not deter Tehran from its positions. They also warned of dire consequences for any military confrontation.
Maliki: The threats will not change our positions.
Hamed Maleki, deputy director of the Qom Seminary, affirmed the Iranian people’s complete readiness to confront external challenges. He emphasized that the language of military threats “will not intimidate Iranians nor change their stance.” In press statements, Maleki described American actions as mere “attempts to intimidate the nation through displays of force.” He added, “The United States overlooks the fact that this nation is the nation of Imam Hussein, and it is fully prepared to defend itself and confront those he called ‘the enemies of God.'” Maleki also reviewed the 47-year history of the revolution, asserting that “rallying around the leadership” has always been the key to victory. He further predicted that the country is nearing a “great peak” thanks to national unity and steadfastness on the ground.
“Kayhan” raises the bar for threats
Meanwhile, the Kayhan newspaper, close to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, issued a stark warning about the possibility of war.
In its editorial, the newspaper stated, “The enemy must be extremely careful,” adding, “Any war they start will ignite the entire region.” The newspaper further asserted, “This time, the battle may end in Washington, not Tehran.”
These statements come at a sensitive time for the region. In this context, diplomatic pressure is converging with military buildups, reflecting a strategy of “media and religious deterrence.” Tehran aims to counter increasing Western pressure through this strategy.
