Cairo, Egypt – On Friday evening, February 6, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty and his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, held a telephone conversation as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two brotherly countries. Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Omani minister briefed his Egyptian counterpart on the progress of the negotiations held in the Sultanate of Oman between the United States and Iran. For his part, Minister Abdel-Aty expressed Egypt’s appreciation for the important and constructive role played by the Sultanate of Oman in this vital matter. He also expressed his gratitude for Oman’s hosting of the talks, affirming that Egypt will continue its tireless efforts to de-escalate tensions and contain the heightened tensions in the region.
For his part, Minister Al-Busaidi commended Egypt’s efforts and the tireless role played by Cairo through intensive contacts with the relevant parties in recent weeks. These contacts contributed to bridging the gaps and paving the way for negotiations. He also praised Egypt’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at defusing crises in the region. During the call, Minister Abdel-Aati affirmed that Egypt would continue to support all efforts aimed at de-escalation and reaching a mutually acceptable settlement on the Iranian nuclear issue that takes into account the interests of all parties. He also stressed the importance of building upon the progress achieved in these negotiations to achieve regional security and stability and avoid the risks of sliding into new waves of instability.
In a related development, the Egyptian Foreign Minister received a phone call on Saturday, February 7, from Mr. Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). During the call, they discussed developments related to the Iranian nuclear program. Minister Abdel-Aty affirmed Egypt’s continued efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region. He also stressed the importance of continuing regional and international efforts to achieve calm and promote diplomatic solutions, while remaining committed to supporting settlements that strengthen regional and international security and stability.
