Cairo, Egypt – Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, affirmed that current humanitarian challenges represent the greatest obstacle to joint Arab action efforts. This applies to both the economic and social spheres. He made these remarks during a speech at a ministerial meeting convened to discuss ways to enhance Arab cooperation in addressing escalating humanitarian crises.
Aboul Gheit pointed out that armed conflicts, climate change disasters, and economic crises are all factors that increase pressure on Arab states. These factors also hinder the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Secretary-General called on member states to intensify their efforts to provide the necessary support to the most vulnerable groups. He also called for strengthening Arab solidarity policies to address crises collectively and effectively.
He stressed that ignoring the humanitarian dimension will lead to disastrous consequences for societies. Furthermore, it threatens the social and economic stability of the region. He emphasized that joint solutions and coordination among Arab states are the only way to overcome these challenges.
