Beijing, China – China warned on Wednesday against sliding into a new “military adventure” in the Middle East. It stressed that the use of force would only complicate matters and push the region toward an uncertain future. This comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran and increasing mutual military threats.
Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations, Fu Cong, told the UN Security Council that “the use of force cannot solve existing problems.” He emphasized that any military action in the region “will only push the Middle East toward the abyss of the unknown.” He also pointed to the grave risks this poses to international peace and security.
The Chinese diplomat added that his country is following with great concern the recent escalation in political and military rhetoric. He called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid any steps that could ignite a large-scale confrontation. He stressed that such a confrontation would have dire consequences for the people of the region and the world.
China’s statements come as US President Donald Trump has intensified his rhetoric toward Iran, brandishing the threat of military force. On the other hand, Tehran vowed to retaliate against any attack targeting its territory or interests, further escalating regional tensions. This raised international concerns about a wider conflict.
The Chinese ambassador emphasized that political and diplomatic solutions remain the only way to address the complex disputes in the Middle East. He stressed the importance of respecting the UN Charter and the need to maintain regional stability and work towards de-escalation rather than further escalation.
During the session, Beijing called for the activation of dialogue channels between the concerned parties. It also encouraged international efforts aimed at preventing a new conflict, warning that any military confrontation with Iran would not be limited to one country but would extend to the entire region, threatening energy security and global trade.
The Chinese position reflects Beijing’s keenness to avoid military escalation in the Middle East. China seeks to promote political settlements that preserve stability at a time when international fears are growing that the existing tension could transform into an open conflict that would be difficult to contain.
