Cairo, Egypt – In his address today at the 74th Police Day celebration held at the Police Academy in New Cairo, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi stated that the role of the Egyptian police force is not limited to protecting a regime or an individual, but extends to protecting the state and its people from various dangers and threats. Sisi added that the men and women of the police force are sons and daughters of the Egyptian people from all governorates. He also emphasized that their participation in the parade represents the diversity of Egyptian society and the unity of purpose in protecting the homeland.
Police Day: Between History and National Identity
The President explained that Police Day is linked to immortal historical acts of heroism, specifically the Battle of Ismailia on January 25, 1952, which embodied the spirit of national struggle and sacrifice for dignity and sovereignty. He emphasized that the police force is not merely a security apparatus, but an integral part of the fabric of Egyptian society, reflecting national belonging and the unity between the state and the people.
Police and the State: Protecting Security and Stability
In a speech that conveyed clear messages about the role of security in confronting contemporary challenges, President Sisi emphasized that the police work to protect the state from the dangers and crises facing the world and the region, and not to protect any particular person or system.
Sisi said, “We are protecting a nation and its people—not a regime. What we are doing is not to protect individuals, but to protect the homeland from the dangers that still exist.” He also noted that modern challenges require continuous support to build the capabilities of security institutions. Furthermore, advanced technology must be used to combat crime and cybersecurity.
Honoring the martyrs and appreciating the sacrifices
The President honored the fallen officers and police personnel who sacrificed their lives for the nation, expressing his deep appreciation to their families and to those who continue to perform their duty in confronting terrorism and crime. The ceremony included poignant moments as Sisi participated in honoring the martyrs and posed for a commemorative photograph with leaders of the Ministry of Interior. This scene reflected the respect and appreciation for the national role of the police.
Artistic performances and symbolic messages
The celebration included an artistic performance entitled “A Nation’s Story,” which depicted the heroism of the police throughout history and their deep-rooted relationship with Egyptian society since the Battle of Ismailia. The event was attended by a number of high-ranking officials and security leaders. Thus, the celebration combined national history with future messages for protecting Egypt’s security and stability.
Political assertions and reactions
The president’s speech highlighted the unity between the state and the people in ensuring regional security and stability, particularly in light of global geopolitical and economic challenges. Senators and political observers praised Sisi’s address, noting its profound nationalistic messages and appreciation for the sacrifices of the police. This, they said, strengthens national unity without discrimination.
