Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi attended the 74th Police Day celebrations on Saturday. The event was held at the Police Academy’s conference center in New Cairo.
During his speech, Sisi delivered decisive messages. He revisited the events of 2013 and outlined Egypt’s steadfast role in confronting international conflicts and regional displacement.
In a striking account of the events following the June Revolution, President Sisi asserted that the Muslim Brotherhood initiated the attacks on the state and its institutions. He asked,
“Who started it in Sinai, Cairo, and the Republic? Who opened fire and set fires?!” The president revealed a political proposal that had been put forward to avoid confrontation. He said,
“And God is my witness, if the people had remained silent and said, ‘Hold elections as we had planned,’ we would have held elections, and the late President Morsi would have run.
If the people wanted him again, then be quiet. If he didn’t win, then he would have lost all credibility. But may God protect you from the blindness of your judgment.”
No compromise on the “immigration and humanitarian” file
On the international front, the Egyptian president noted that the world is experiencing fierce conflicts over resources and influence,
making Egypt a destination and safe haven for millions of people from neighboring countries who have fled the ravages of unrest.
Sisi emphasized that Egypt will remain a bulwark against waves of illegal immigration,
but he categorically rejected the notion that his country will allow this issue to be used
as a tool for political bargaining or blackmail at the expense of deeply rooted human values.
Sisi affirmed that the awareness of the Egyptian people and the unity of state institutions,
especially the armed forces and the civilian police, are the only guarantee for Egypt to remain an oasis of security in a turbulent region.
He concluded his speech by renewing his pledge to the families of the martyrs,
affirming that their blood has written the history of heroism and protected the nation’s resources from being lost.
