Algiers – The Algerian Press Agency (APS) accused French media outlets of waging a systematic campaign against Algeria, asserting that recent coverage has taken on a hostile character, going beyond mere media criticism to deliberate attempts to distort the image of the state and its institutions.
In an official report, the agency stated that several French platforms have consistently published “false and biased” reports and statements aimed at damaging Algeria’s image regionally and internationally, and creating a climate of persistent doubt regarding its political choices and sovereign positions.
The agency added that this media discourse reflects, as it described it, French unease with Algeria’s independent decision-making, particularly concerning foreign policy and relations with international partners, arguing that what is presented to the French public lacks balance and objectivity.
APS emphasized that Algeria distinguishes between legitimate press freedom and the political manipulation of the media, stressing that these repeated campaigns will not affect the state’s fundamental principles or its strategic orientations. This media escalation comes amid growing tension in Algerian-French relations, with observers noting that the battle is now extending from the diplomatic arena to the media space, at a time when the issues shared between the two countries are becoming increasingly sensitive.
