Paris, France – French President Emmanuel Macron expressed his country’s concern over the Syrian government’s offensive against Kurdish-led forces backed by the West.

He also stressed that the continuation of military operations threatens the stability and unity of Syria.

Macron said he had spoken by phone with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, conveying Paris’s concerns about the ongoing military escalation.

He also emphasized the need to halt the offensive and embark on a political process leading to a lasting ceasefire.

The French president affirmed that his country, along with the European Union, cannot support the continuation of this military approach.

This comes particularly in light of international efforts aimed at containing the conflict and preventing its expansion.

diplomatic efforts

France has been engaged for some time in diplomatic efforts to mediate between Damascus and the Kurdish forces, attempting to reach understandings that reduce tensions and pave the way for political solutions.

Macron had previously emphasized that halting the offensive is a prerequisite for resuming any European or international support for stabilization efforts in Syria.

The French president wrote in a post on the X platform that “reaching a lasting ceasefire is essential, and an agreement must be reached.”

He added that Syria’s unity and stability depend on ending military operations and committing to peaceful solutions.

He pointed out that the continuation of the confrontations would complicate the regional landscape and increase the suffering of civilians.

rapid developments

Macron’s statements come at a time when the Syrian conflict is witnessing rapid developments on the ground and in the political arena.

This is happening amid European concerns that the escalation could undermine de-escalation efforts and reignite new hotspots of tension.

The French position also reflects broader concern within the European Union

about the repercussions of the offensive on regional security.

This is particularly evident in areas where local forces supported by Western countries are deployed.

Paris emphasized that a sustainable solution to the Syrian crisis remains fundamentally political.

It also called on all parties to exercise restraint and engage in serious dialogue that guarantees

the country’s unity and puts an end to the suffering of the Syrian people.
