Cairo, Egypt – President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Massad Boulos, Senior Advisor to US President Donald Trump on Arab and African Affairs, in a high-level meeting on Wednesday. The meeting reflected the strong momentum in the strategic relationship between Cairo and Washington. Also present were Dr. Badr Abdel-Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, and Major General Hassan Rashad, Director of the General Intelligence Directorate. The Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Cairo, Evania Sidrias, was also in attendance.
Exchange of messages and anticipated economic cooperation
At the outset of the meeting, Mosaad Boulos conveyed President Donald Trump’s greetings and appreciation to President El-Sisi, which the latter reciprocated, emphasizing the strategic importance of relations between the two countries. Both sides agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation across various fields, with a particular focus on the economic sphere. They also underscored the importance of holding the second edition of the Egyptian-American Economic Forum in 2026. This forum will serve as a platform to promote joint investments and advance the interests of both nations.
Sudan and the Horn of Africa: Coordination to de-escalate tensions
The meeting addressed in depth the volatile regional issues, with President El-Sisi expressing his appreciation for the Trump administration’s commitment to ending the war in Sudan. He emphasized Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Furthermore, he affirmed Egypt’s rejection of any attempts to undermine Sudan’s stability. President El-Sisi considered Sudan’s security an integral part of Egypt’s national security. Cairo and Washington shared a common vision on the necessity of de-escalating tensions in the region and strengthening joint efforts to find political solutions to crises. These political solutions must uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. During the discussions, President El-Sisi also stressed that Egypt’s water security is an “existential issue” directly linked to national security and is non-negotiable.
American praise for the Egyptian role
For his part, Mosaad Boulos praised Egypt’s leading role as a pillar of security and stability in the Middle East and Africa. He also commended the close coordination between Cairo and Washington in addressing shared challenges. Boulos affirmed the US administration’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Egypt to reduce tensions. Furthermore, the administration seeks to achieve peace and development on the African continent.
