Doha, Qatar – The International Media Office of the State of Qatar issued an official statement Wednesday evening in response to media reports circulating about the departure of some individuals from Al Udeid Air Base, which is under the control of US forces.

Measures amid regional tensions

The office explained in its statement that such measures are being taken “in light of the tensions in the region.” However, it did not elaborate on the nature or duration of these measures. The statement emphasized that the State of Qatar places the security and safety of its citizens and residents as its “top priority.” The state also continues to take all necessary measures to protect vital and military installations in the country. The office noted the state’s commitment to transparency and affirmed that any updates will be announced through official channels as soon as they become available.

Context of military movements

The Qatari statement came hours after a Reuters report, citing three diplomats, stated that some personnel at Al Udeid Air Base had been advised to leave by Wednesday evening. While there has been no official comment from the US Embassy in Doha so far, observers believe this “change in posture” reflects a state of high alert.
