Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Commander Abdulrahman Al-Mahrami, a member of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, met today, Thursday, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Mr. Hans Grundberg. The meeting addressed the latest developments on the national scene and international efforts to achieve peace and stability in Yemen.
During the meeting, preparations for the upcoming South-South Dialogue Conference, scheduled to be held in Riyadh soon, were reviewed. Al-Mahrami expressed his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its generous sponsorship of this initiative. He affirmed that the dialogue reflects the brothers’ commitment to unity and overcoming current challenges.
Al-Mahrami pointed out that a just solution to the “Southern Issue” through consultations is a fundamental pillar for strengthening national efforts to overthrow the Houthi coup in Sana’a. He also affirmed that the South emerging with a unified political project encompassing all its factions would be a driving force for restoring state institutions and achieving sustainable peace. Furthermore, Al-Mahrami called on the UN envoy to actively participate in the dialogue to ensure its alignment with international efforts to establish a comprehensive peace.
The meeting also addressed the security situation in the capital, Aden, and the liberated governorates. Al-Mahrami reviewed the measures taken to secure the city and protect government buildings and facilities. He emphasized that establishing security and maintaining public order is a top priority to ensure the continued operation of institutions and the provision of services to citizens.
For his part, UN envoy Hans Grundberg affirmed the United Nations’ support for efforts to strengthen security and stability in Yemen. He expressed his appreciation for Al-Mahrami’s invitation to participate in the South-South Dialogue Conference. He described the initiative as an important step in the political process to achieve lasting peace.
