Gaza, Palestine – Hospitals and medical centers in the Gaza Strip are facing a worsening health crisis due to a severe and critical shortage of essential laboratory supplies and consumables. This directly threatens the lives of thousands of patients and undermines the ability of medical staff to accurately diagnose and monitor illnesses.
Medical sources reported that laboratories are operating at extremely limited capacity. A large number of reagents and laboratory materials necessary for conducting vital tests, including blood tests, chronic disease tests, and emergency tests, have run out. This negatively impacts the speed of diagnosis and the ability to make appropriate treatment decisions.
Doctors in the sector confirmed that the ongoing shortage poses serious risks to patients, especially those with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and emergency cases. This is occurring amidst immense pressure on the healthcare system and a persistent lack of medical supplies. This is due to imposed restrictions and the difficulty in importing necessary equipment.
Health authorities warn that the worsening crisis could lead to a partial collapse of diagnostic services. This necessitates urgent intervention from international organizations and relevant bodies. The goal is to provide the necessary support and ensure the continued operation of laboratories, thus maintaining a minimum level of healthcare for the population of the Gaza Strip.
