Socotra, Yemen – More than 400 foreign and Arab tourists are stranded on the Yemeni island of Socotra. This follows the disruption of flights to and from the island, causing concern among visitors and prompting appeals to local authorities and airlines for urgent intervention to find solutions.
Local sources reported that the flight disruptions were due to operational and logistical issues, as well as weather conditions. This prevented tourists from departing on schedule, forcing some to extend their stay on the island.
Several stranded tourists indicated a lack of clear information regarding the resumption of flights. They confirmed that some are facing difficulties with accommodation and living expenses. Furthermore, some international travel plans are at risk of cancellation.
For its part, the local authorities in Socotra confirmed that they are monitoring the situation in coordination with the relevant authorities. They are also working to operate additional flights as soon as conditions improve. The authorities are providing the necessary facilities to ensure the safety and comfort of tourists until the crisis is resolved.
Socotra Island is considered one of the most prominent natural tourist destinations in the region, thanks to its unique biodiversity. However, its limited infrastructure and the scarcity of flights make it vulnerable to such crises in the event of any operational or weather-related emergency.
