London, UK — British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said that he “supports” Denmark after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to annex Greenland.
The Prime Minister added, according to DPA, that Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen was “right” to reject
any demands from the U.S. president, according to the British news agency BA Media.
Starmer’s declaration of solidarity with Denmark, a NATO ally, comes as President Trump indicated earlier
this week that Venezuela may not be the last country subject to potential U.S.
intervention, following a raid by his administration in Caracas and the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro.
Trump told The Atlantic magazine following the operation in Venezuela, “Of course we want Greenland.”
In response, the Danish Prime Minister issued a statement saying, “The United States has no right to annex
any of the three countries that fall under the Kingdom of Denmark,” with Greenland being one of them.
When asked during a meeting at a center in Berkshire about Frederiksen’s firm stance,
Starmer told Sky News, “Well, I support her. She is right regarding the future of Greenland.”
