Paris, France – Panic gripped the suburbs of the French capital, Paris, following a knife attack on a RER A train. Two people sustained injuries of varying severity. A manhunt was launched for the fleeing assailant.
Details of the surprise attack
The French newspaper Le Parisien reported that the attack occurred in the Vézienne area. The first victim, a man who was fast asleep, was suddenly stabbed in the face.
The attack left the victim with injuries to his cheek and hands, described as “minor.” However, it caused shock among the passengers.
A second victim and a fugitive perpetrator
The attacker didn’t stop there. Another person was subjected to a similar attack at the Vésinet/Le Pic train station. While the first victim received medical attention, the condition of the second victim and the extent of their injuries are still unknown.
Security measures
The perpetrator fled the scene immediately after the train stopped. French police launched a large-scale search operation in the area surrounding the station and nearby neighborhoods to apprehend the suspect.
Authorities have begun reviewing surveillance cameras inside the train and at the station to identify the assailant and his motives.
The incident caused partial disruption to train services on the line connecting Paris to its western suburbs. Security services are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances of the attack. Authorities are examining whether it was a random act or a targeted attack.
