Tehran, Iran – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf threatened to turn all US bases and armed forces in the Middle East region into a “legitimate target” for Tehran.
This is in response to any potential American aggression or adventure.
Qalibaf wrote on the “X” platform: “The disrespectful US president should know
that as a result of this official recognition,
All US bases and armed forces throughout the Middle East region will be transformed
This is to our legal objective in response to any potential adventurism from the American side.”
The threat came in response to statements made by US President Donald Trump last Friday.
He said that the United States would help the protesters in Iran if “Iran were going to kill peaceful protesters.”
The Iranian parliament speaker pointed to the failure of what he called “foreign intelligence agencies”.
This is in an attempt to transform legal protests into armed confrontations.
He stressed that the Islamic Republic “does not equate the ranks of the demonstrators with foreign agents.”
Protests broke out in Iran at the end of December due to the sharp decline
in the value of the local currency (the rial) and its impact on prices.
The turmoil led to the resignation of Central Bank Governor Mohammad Farzin,
and Abdolnaser Hemmati took over the position by presidential decree on December 31.
Iran is experiencing a period of high inflation and a continued collapse of the rial.
This followed the US withdrawal from the nuclear agreement in May 2018.
The value of the riyal has fallen sharply from about 50,000 riyals to the dollar to
about 1.4 million riyals to the dollar in the free market currently.
