Aden, Yemen – The conflict in Hadramawt Governorate has entered a phase of “open warfare” following the announcement by the Southern Armed Forces of a large-scale military operation dubbed “Promising Future.” This occurred amidst fierce clashes on the ground with forces loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood, and direct Saudi air intervention targeting camps belonging to the Southern Transitional Council.
Captain: An existential battle against the Muslim Brotherhood and al-Qaeda
Southern Armed Forces spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed al-Naqeeb, confirmed that the Southern Forces are currently engaged in a battle on all strategic fronts. He described it as an “existential war,” no different in nature from the 1994 war that targeted the South.
The captain revealed that the Southern Forces had repelled a large-scale attack by the Muslim Brotherhood militia and al-Qaeda terrorists. He indicated that these groups receive Saudi support, while categorically denying any involvement of the “Homeland Shield” forces in this war. He also launched a scathing attack on Salem al-Khanbashi, describing him as a “mouthpiece” carrying out foreign agendas.
Ground advances and deadly raids
On the ground, government forces in the south have made strategic progress towards the Al-Abr region, a major stronghold of forces loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood, with the aim of securing international roads and preventing security breaches.
Simultaneously, seven Saudi airstrikes targeted the 37th Brigade camp in the Khash’ah area. Mohammed Abdul Malik, head of the Hadramawt Valley and Desert Transitional Council, confirmed that there were casualties (without specifying the number) as a result of the bombing. Videos circulated by activists and confirmed by Agence France-Presse (AFP), citing senior council officials, documented the attack.
Al-Bahsani warns: Chaos serves the Houthis
In contrast, the Vice President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Faraj al-Bahsani, issued a warning about the catastrophic consequences of turning weapons inward. Al-Bahsani deemed any conflict in the liberated areas “unacceptable,” arguing that it undermines the chances for stability. He emphasized that the only beneficiary of this chaos is the Houthi militia. He called on everyone to prioritize the greater good and reject dragging the south into internal conflicts that would tear apart the national fabric.
