Amman, Jordan – The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation of Israel’s ongoing unilateral actions against the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. It considered these actions a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law, and an attempt to impose a new reality that undermines the existing historical and legal status quo.
In an official statement, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry affirmed that these escalatory steps constitute a direct attack on the sanctity of Islamic holy sites and undermine efforts to de-escalate tensions. It warned that the continuation of such practices will lead to an explosion of the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and further instability in the region.
The statement stressed the need to respect the status quo of Islamic and Christian holy sites. It called for a halt to all unilateral measures aimed at altering the historical and religious identity of the Ibrahimi Mosque. It also called on the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities and urged it to pressure Israel to cease its repeated violations. Amman reiterated its firm and unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among them their right to establish their independent state within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. It also emphasized that protecting holy sites is a collective responsibility that cannot be ignored or ignored.
